social activist Sonam Wangchuk said that now the heat is increasing in Ladakh as well. Due to increasing tourism and use of diesel vehicles, the situation in Ladakh is changing rapidly. Our glaciers are melting… due to which the level of our seas is increasing. Melting of glaciers causes loss of biodiversity. All these are the results of climate change. The effect of climate change is also being seen in Ladakh. In the NDTV India Telethon, Ladakh’s social activist Sonam Wangchuk said that tourism is continuously increasing in Ladakh. Thousands of diesel vehicles come here every day, due to which pollution is increasing. If the situation is not controlled in time, then its dire consequences can be seen in the coming days.

Heat is increasing in Ladakh too.

Sonam Wangchuk said, “The effect of global warming is being seen in Ladakh as well. There are floods here in summer, that too flash floods. Due to global warming, people are now thinking of installing ACs here as well. The effect of global emissions is being seen in Ladakh as well. The temperature is also increasing here due to diesel trucks. The black smoke that comes out of the fires being lit in winter settles on the glaciers. The glaciers retreat even more due to this. This is also causing a lot of damage to the environment.”

Tourists want luxury here too
He said, “The tourists who come to Ladakh want the same luxury here too, due to which the local pollution has started increasing here too, this situation is not good for the glacier. The temperature here has started changing due to the pressure of tourism. The situation is very delicate. Tourism in Ladakh should be allowed on the condition that it is different from other places and the environment here and especially the glaciers are not affected much.”

Solar energy should be used in Ladakh Wangchuk said, “Don’t do anything to please tourists, which will ruin our future. We can save the environment by using solar energy in Ladakh. We can make solar charging points in Ladakh. The government should promote solar and hydrogen fuel here. Along with this, people should reduce their electricity consumption by half, so that pollution is also reduced by half. No one should waste electricity. We should understand that everything is connected to the other.”
