Over 40k children enrolled in Govt schools in 2weeks, Anantnag tops list

Srinagar: The fresh enrollment drive started by the Directorate of School Education Kashmir (DSEK) has brought laurels to the department as in just two weeks period; the authorities have managed to get over 40000 children enrolled in the government-run-schools. The ongoing mega enrollment drive was launched by the department in all the districts after the new academic session began in the Valley. Besides the teachers of their respective schools, all the top officials including Zonal Education Officers and Chief Education Officers have been participating in these enrolment drives.

According to officials, teachers have been directed to go door to door in their respective places of posting to check whether any children is still not enrolled and ensure the admission in their schools. Teachers, officials said, have been also directed to bring back all those students having dropped out due to certain reasons. In order to motivate the parents to enroll their children in government schools, the teachers and students carrying banners and placards have been conducting rallies in their villages. As per the data shared by an official, who is part of the mega enrolment drive at the province level, Anantnag district has enrolled the highest number of children followed by Kupwara and Baramulla.


Data suggests that 10,116 children have been admitted in government-run-schools in Anantnag while in Kupwara and Baramulla 9,719 and 5,454 students have been enrolled respectively. Budgam has figured at number 4 where 3,805 children have been enrolled while Bandipora is at number five with 3255 new enrolments. Srinagar, however, has managed to get only 757 new enrolments. With new entrants, Anantnag district where 89246 students were studying in government schools before the mega enrolment drive, the enrolment percentage has increased by 11.33 percent while as in district Kupwara the enrolment percentage in government schools has increased by 8.41 percent where the number of students enrolled in government schools before enrollment drive was 115503, the highest in the Valley.

Baramulla, data suggests, ranks second in the enrolment of children in government schools before the drive at 107660. An official said that Director School Education himself has been participating in the functions being conducted in far-off areas of different districts as part of the enrollment drive. He said that the drive initiated by the DSEK is aimed to encourage the community to admit the children in government schools. “The drive was officially started by the director on November 29. It was only in last couple of weeks that over 40000 children were admitted in government schools. Besides the top officials teachers have been putting up all their efforts to make this drive a success,” the official said. The drive, he said will continue upto 30 December and at least 70000 children are expected to be enrolled in government schools by the end of drive.
