Weekly ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’ to be celebrated in Jammu and Kashmir

Union Home Secretary Ajay Kumar Bhalla on Saturday reviewed the celebrations under the ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’ to commemorate 75 years of India’s independence in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. Chief Secretary J&K Dr. Arun Kumar Mehta participated in the meeting.

Administrative Secretaries of Home, General Administration, Culture and Youth Services and Sports Department were also present in the meeting. Chief Secretary Dr. Arun Kumar Mehta informed about the Independence Day celebrations in Jammu and Kashmir this year. He informed that around 10 lakh youths from 28,000 institutions participated in these. He also talked about hoisting a 100 feet flag on the Hari Parvat under the supervision of the city of Srinagar.


Dr. Mehta informed that a week long festival will be organized under Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav to showcase the achievements since 1947 and to promote youth engagement in J&K. During this festival, the magic of Jammu and Kashmir will be recreated across the country through houseboat and water sports festivals at Dal, Wular, Mansabal, Saruisar and Mansar lakes as well as Ranjit Sagar Dam. In addition, programs to revive the rich cultural traditions and heritage of the Union Territory will also be organized.
